Founded in Waco, Texas in 1937, Big Red soda is a Lone Star staple. Originally named Sun Tang Red Cream Soda, the drink became known as Big Red in the 1960s. In the 1970s, the drink’s popularity spread throughout the South when it became available outside of Texas.
What does Big Red taste like?
While it’s hard to put your finger on exactly what it tastes like (part of its appeal, no doubt), it’s essentially a cream soda. A bright, colorful cream soda, sweetened and flavored with orange and lemon oils, instead of the cherry or berry that people assume due to its color. The bright red hue can be attributed to the coloring added during production.
Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, caffeine, natural and artificial flavors, red 40, caramel color
